Consider Someone Else was on hand to volunteer time at SOME , (So Others Might Eat) in Washington, D.C.  CSE had the opportunity to sit down with Azim (CSE Founder)  for a "CSE Q&A" Session to learn about the experience, from scheduling to actual date of service.  Azim will soon be releasing a single titled, "D.C. Street" which chronicles homelessness, hunger and addiction.  He has chosen to donate 10% of his download proceeds to SOME.

CSE:  What prompted you to volunteer your time at SOME?

Azim:   Well, I first explored "The Give Pages" on the Consider Someone Else social network.  Listed under  "Give Time," the causes that initially appealed to me were homelessness and hunger.  I was exposed to these issues at eight years old, when I first saw a homeless man.  I have always wanted to contribute towards helping fight homelessness and hunger.  But after reading SOME's "About Us" page, and upon my visit, I learned that they offer more than meal provision and assisted living.

CSE: How did you go about scheduling your volunteer date?  Was it a simple process?

Azim:  I decided to call direct and I spoke with a volunteer coordinator.  We scheduled a date, which was the lunch service; it runs from 11:00-1:30 pm.  I received some info via e-mail that explained the dress code, arrival time, etc.  They even had private parking, which is great anytime you're driving in D.C.  That's it!  It was as simple as that!

CSE:  Explain what happened when you arrived. What were your tasks/ responsibilities?

Azim: I was greeted immediately  and  I viewed a video tape that explained the organization's mission, services and accomplishments.  Afterwards, I was directed to the cafeteria area and assigned a task.  The food isle was already well manned, therefore I had water pitcher service.  I refilled the water pitcher's with ice water when they needed replenishing.  And you can imagine how important this is, when it's 85 degrees outside.  I was later assigned clean up detail, which was to mop the eating area.  I also set the chairs to the tables and helped a donor bring his goods in from his vehicle.  I completed my tasks  with great delight!

..............

CSE:  How did the SOME staff treat you and others?

Azim:  The SOME staff were excellent in their treatment of others and with regard to customer service?  Everyone that worked and/or volunteered did so in manner that demonstrated their wanting to to be there.

CSE:  How do you feel that SOME is in alignment with the Consider Someone Else philosophy?

Azim:  SOME offers a platform for others to engage in making social contributions all year long: this is the CSE mission.

CSE: Would you refer or suggest this organization to others as means for making a social/societal contribution?

Azim:  Yes, I most definitely would.  And I would suggest that you experience helping in the "SOME" way as soon as possible.
